Beta Reader · free

Generic advice is guessing. Calibrated feedback is editing.

Paste the job description, the rubric, or three samples of their writing. The readers stop reviewing a text and start reviewing yours, for them.

Uncalibrated
  • "Consider varying your sentence length."
  • "The introduction could be more engaging."
  • "Good use of examples overall!"
Any chatbot, anywhere. Free, and worth exactly that.
Calibrated · CMU HCI rubric + 3 sample essays
  • ¶3Lead with the signature story. Readers 1, 2 and 4 all stalled at the coursework list.
  • rubric §2"Evidence of impact" weighs 40% of the score; you spend 12% of your words on it.
  • 3/4Sentence-length variance is fine. Ignore the generic advice.
Anchored to the paragraph, not the vibe. On your own key.

Readers are not fixed. Tune the rubric or write your own reader roles, and the panel reads like the people who will actually judge the piece.

Fix what they flagged, then send it back to the same readers. Koru diffs the two passes: what you resolved, what still stands, and what your rewrite newly introduced.

Resolved

The ¶3 coursework list now leads with the signature line — all three readers drop it.

Still open

The 13px table row still states a preference as a result; the measured number is missing.

Newly surfaced

The rewritten closing reads abrupt to one reader — worth one more pass.

Local-first

Files live on your disk. Koru Press opens, edits, saves. Nothing uploads, ever.

BYOK, direct

AI requests travel from your machine straight to the endpoint you configure. No Koru server in between.

Offline

Write on a plane. Everything works offline except theme downloads.

Frequently asked

Is Koru Press really free?

Yes. The editor, all seven split views, the Beta Reader and every AI feature are free forever. Themes cost: one-time purchase, permanent ownership.

What does "BYOK" mean?

Bring your own key. You paste an API key from any provider you trust; requests go directly from the app to that provider. There is no Koru cloud in the middle. We could not read your drafts if we tried.

Do I need an account?

Not to write, not to run AI, not to try the preset sample. An account only matters when you buy marketplace themes, because ownership needs somewhere to live.

Which file formats does it open?

Markdown, JSON, XML, HTML, SVG, Mermaid and CSV, each rendered live beside its source. We add a format only when the split view genuinely helps; plain code files and binary documents are deliberately out.

Where do my drafts go?

Nowhere. They stay as files on your machine. AI feedback runs against your own endpoint, direct from your device.

Windows or Linux?

macOS first, Apple Silicon and Intel. Windows is on the roadmap after launch.
